Residential Solar Panels Townsville
Solar Panels for Your Townsville Home
Townsville is one of the sunniest cities in Australia, making it one of the best places in the country to go solar. A well-designed residential solar system can offset 60–90% of your household electricity consumption — cutting your power bill significantly from day one.
At Solar Dimension, we don't do one-size-fits-all. Every residential solar system we design is tailored specifically to your roof, your household's energy usage, and your budget. Our fully inhouse, locally based team handles everything — from the initial site assessment and system design, right through to installation, grid connection, and ongoing support. A complete residential solar installation includes panels, inverter, mounting, wiring, metering, grid connection, and monitoring, we manage every component.
We install systems across all Townsville suburbs including Kirwan, Thuringowa, Idalia, Mount Louisa, Annandale, Cranbrook, Deeragun, Burdell, Bohle Plains, and the broader North Queensland region.

Is My Roof Suitable for Solar?
Most Townsville roofs are suitable for solar. Our team assesses your specific roof during the free site visit, but here is what generally affects suitability.
Roof Orientation
North-facing roofs generate the most solar in Australia. East and west-facing roofs still perform well. South-facing panels are generally avoided but can work on larger rooftops with good pitch.
Shading & Obstructions
Trees, chimneys, and neighbouring buildings can reduce output. We assess shading at your site and design around it where possible. Partial shading on one panel does not have to affect the whole system.
Roof Age & Material
Tile, metal, and Colorbond roofs all suit solar installation. If your roof is nearing the end of its life, it is worth addressing that before panels go on. We flag any concerns during the assessment.
Available Roof Space
A standard 6.6kW system requires approximately 35–40 square metres of usable roof space. Larger systems need more. We maximise your usable area during design.
What Size Solar System Does My Home Need?
System size depends on how much electricity your household uses and when you use it. There is no single right answer, but here are general starting points for Townsville homes.
Small Household
1–2 people
6.6kW system
- Suits lower consumption homes
- Covers general appliances and one AC unit
- Approx. 24–26 panels
- Good starting point if battery is planned later
Medium Household
3–4 people
10kW system
- Suits average Townsville family home
- Covers multiple AC units, pool pump, appliances
- Approx. 22–24 panels (larger format)
- Strong export potential for feed-in tariff
Large Household
5+ people or high usage
13kW+ system
- Suits large homes, EV owners, pool owners
- Maximum offset of grid electricity
- Battery storage pairs well at this size
- Commercial-grade performance for residential use
These are guides only. Solar Dimension sizes every system based on your actual electricity bills and usage patterns, not household averages.
What to Expect on Installation Day
Most residential solar installations are completed in a single day. Here is what happens.
Morning Arrival
Our team arrives and does a final roof check before work begins. We confirm panel layout and inverter location with you before starting.
Mounting & Panels
Mounting rails are fixed to your roof, then panels are secured. The team works cleanly and protects your roof surface throughout.
Inverter & Wiring
The inverter is installed, usually in the garage or on an external wall. All DC wiring from the panels and AC wiring to your switchboard is completed and tested.
Switchboard Connection
We connect the solar system to your switchboard and install the required isolators and protection devices. A Certificate of Compliance is issued on completion.
Commission & Handover
We power the system on, test output, set up your monitoring app, and walk you through everything. Most systems are live and generating the same day.
You do not need to be home for the full installation, but we ask that someone is available at the start and end of the day for access and handover.
How Much Can Solar Save in Townsville?
Townsville sits in Australia's highest solar resource zone. That means more generation per panel than most other cities, and stronger savings as a result.

Based on current electricity prices and feed-in tariffs
The exact saving depends on your electricity rates, how much solar you use directly during the day, and your feed-in tariff for exported power. Homes with high daytime usage, air conditioning, pool pumps, and home offices, tend to see the strongest returns. Solar Dimension provides a personalised savings estimate as part of every quote.

After Your Solar System Is Installed
Once your system is live, Solar Dimension does not disappear. Here is what ongoing ownership looks like.
Monitoring App
Your inverter connects to a monitoring app (Sungrow iSolarCloud, GoodWe SEMS, or equivalent depending on your inverter). You can see live generation, consumption, and savings from your phone.
Reading Your New Bill
After going solar your bill will show solar export credits (feed-in tariff) alongside grid usage. It can look different to what you're used to. We explain what to look for at handover.
Normal System Behaviour
Output varies with cloud cover, season, and time of day. Monitoring shows your daily generation pattern. If output drops significantly and weather is clear, contact us.
We're Still Here
Solar Dimension provides ongoing support for every system we install. If something looks wrong, call or SMS us. You can also visit our support portal for common issues, guides, and manuals.
SupportShould I Add a Battery at the Same Time?
Adding a battery at the time of solar installation is generally more cost-effective than retrofitting one later. A single installation visit covers both, reducing labour costs and any need to revisit wiring or switchboard work.
A battery makes the most sense for households that use a significant amount of electricity in the evening and overnight, when solar generation has stopped. If most of your power use is during the day, panels alone may be the better starting point.
Solar Dimension will advise honestly on whether a battery suits your usage pattern at the time of your quote. We do not push battery sales where they do not make financial sense for the customer.
Battery makes sense if...
- High evening electricity use
- Frequent power outages (storm season)
- Planning an EV in the next 1–2 years
- Want maximum energy independence
Consider waiting if...
- Most usage is during daylight hours
- Budget is the primary constraint right now
- Existing solar system already covers daytime well
Not sure? We'll tell you honestly.
